Late May in Athens is difficult to beat: crystal-clear waters, summer temperatures, fresh and healthy food at reasonable prices, all surrounded by one of the most historically fascinating settings in Europe.
Athens SEO is more than just a conference, it’s a vibe.
It’s the perfect excuse to add a few extra days, explore Athens, enjoy the local food scene, or visit some of Greece’s stunning islands before the peak summer season begins.
In just two years, Eva Mermingi and Francesca Kavvadia and Andreas Georgatsos have established Athens SEO as one of the most exciting events in the European Search calendar, bringing together some of the industry’s most respected voices for two days of Technical SEO, AI and conversations about where Search is heading next.
The 2026 edition featured internationally recognised speakers including Aleyda Solís, Jamie Indigo, Dixon Jones, Fili Wiese, Chris Lever, Frank van Dijk, Luke Gosha, Serge Bezborodov, Andrea Masoni, Alessia Mancini and Konstantinos Sfyris, among many others.
The event was supported by some of the best-known brands and organisations in the industry. Sponsors included JetOctopus, Screaming Frog, Advanced Web Ranking, Women in Tech SEO, WhitePress, Search London, Search ‘n’ Stuff and Belgrade SEO Conference.
But the story of Athens SEO is about much more than sold-out events. It’s the story of three founders who believed Greece deserved a place on the international Search map.
Three Founders, One Vision
Together, they combined technical expertise, business experience and a shared ambition to build something the industry was missing: a world-class conference focused on Technical SEO and AI, while creating a genuine sense of community around it.
In 2025, what started as an idea quickly became a sold-out debut event. The response from attendees, speakers and sponsors made one thing clear: there was room for a conference that combined deep technical content with authentic human connections.
Eva Mermingi
Senior Technical SEO Consultant and Co-Founder of Athens SEO.
“When I came back from London to Greece, I realised Greece deserved a place on the international SEO map – but the deep technical conversations our industry needed simply weren’t happening here yet. In my mind, I wanted to build the conference I would’ve wanted to find myself in – one where Technical SEO, AI and real human connection share the same room” Eva reflected.
Francesca Kavvadia
Senior Technical SEO Consultant and Co-Founder of Athens SEO.
“Athens SEO is a deliberately targeted conference for senior SEO experts, where every talk is honest, strategic and actionable. We map the agenda carefully to ensure the discussions that actually matter are the ones that happen. We are just as intentional about who is in the room, because the right audience is what makes the difference. That combination is what makes the connections and takeaways last” Francesca explained.
Andreas Georgatsos
Senior Business & Growth Consultant and Co-Founder of Athens SEO.
“What surprised me most was how quickly the vision materialised in just the second year we went from a local proof of concept to an international stage with attendees from over 25 countries and a speaker lineup we could not have expected to build this soon. That kind of growth tells you the industry was ready for something like this” Andreas noted.
Chilled Atmosphere and an SEO Conference
The 2026 agenda reflected where Search is heading: AI Overviews, AI crawlers, vector embeddings, semantic optimisation, technical automation, content maturity, stakeholder management, e-commerce SEO, LLM visibility and multi-platform search.
As always, one of the most inspiring aspects of the event wasn’t just what happened on stage. It was the conversations between sessions, over coffee, during lunch breaks and over a couple of drinks at the after-party.
“That’s exactly what I wanted Athens SEO to feel like! A room where the conversation doesn’t stop when the talks do. The people you meet between sessions have seen things you’ll never see alone, and they’re the ones who help you make sense of where the work is actually going. AI Overviews, AI crawlers, vector embeddings – none of it has changed that. If anything, it’s made the human layer matter more” Eva added.
AI and Technical SEO
Athens SEO positions itself at the intersection of Technical SEO and AI, two areas rapidly reshaping how brands think about visibility.
The talks consistently focused on practical implementation, real-world testing and actionable frameworks rather than hype.
From AI crawler management and automation workflows to vector search and semantic optimisation, attendees left with ideas they could immediately take back and apply. As an attendee myself, that’s probably what I value most in any conference!
“We are still in early days and there is a lot of noise, new tools, new metrics, and clients unsure what to focus on. The fundamentals have never mattered more; technical SEO is what determines whether AI systems can find and cite your content at all. But SEO cannot stay in a silo, digital PR and earned third-party signals are now directly tied to how AI assesses authority. The SEO experts who will thrive are the ones who connect technical expertise with broader marketing thinking” said Francesca.
But Why Athens?
Because there aren’t many places where you can improve your technical SEO skills during the day and watch a stunning Mediterranean sunset over a glass of rosé in the evening.
Because it feels less like a conference and more like a short holiday with some of the smartest people in Search. Because you’ll leave with new ideas, new friends and probably a strong desire to return to Greece.
Athens SEO Is Only Getting Started
The founders have ambitious plans for future editions and an even stronger focus on creating a global stage for Technical SEO and AI.
“Success for us is growing Athens SEO into a festival-style event with more dimensions such as masterminds, colabs with major conferences, a Knowledge Hub, webinars, an Academy and more, while keeping it independent and retaining everything that makes it what it is: personal, niche, hospitable and focused on meaningful experiences and connections” Andreas shared.
If the first two editions are anything to go by, Athens SEO is only getting started. Watch this space.
